Banty Jones Park celebrates the man who brought a community together.
Banty Jones Park is named in honor of Charles “Banty” Jones, a respected African American community leader and businessman whose work strengthened both the people and neighborhoods of Rome.Originally built in 1970 as Crane Street Park, the space was officially renamed Banty Jones Park in 2014 by the Rome City Commission and Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority, recognizing Jones’s lasting contributions to the community. In November, the park reopened following a complete redesign funded through the 2013 SPLOST program. The location is especially meaningful — the park now stands where Jones’s service station once operated, anchoring his presence in the history of the neighborhood. At the dedication, his family, including son Cornelius Jones, expressed appreciation for the recognition and the continuation of his legacy.
